The Restaurant Guide Hamburg continues. This time we paid the ‘Schanzenviertel’ a visit, a buzzing district of Hamburg with lots of Restaurants, Bars, Cafés and shops. The sheer amount can be quite overwhelming for tourists, so don’t worry, here’s one place you can visit without much risk 😉
You can find Ottos Burger at one of the main streets, the Schanzenstraße. They offer a variety of burgers, sides, shakes and cocktails, located in a modern and cosy interior. We decided to try some of their most popular dishes and basically rolled out of the restaurant afterwards.
You can order rich, sugary shakes that could stuff you alone, so sharing it with a friend is recommended. My favourite: The peanut butter banana shake. The cocktails, we tried Gin Tonic and Moscow Mule, are satisfyingly tasty as well.
When it comes to the main dishes and sides our tastes differed quite a bit. I know Poutine from my time in Canada and didn’t like the huge amount of meat and would have preferred more (melted) cheese instead. Furthermore the quinoa patty with a spicy tomato sauce wasn’t overly exciting and I simply have tried better vegan burgers already and the coleslaw wasn’t my taste at all.
But let’s now focus on the great food experiences. The Mister T Burger with a juicy, medium beef patty, caramelised onions, mustard crust and truffle mayonnaise (they use truffle oil for it) was amazing. Also we were amazed by the wide variety of tasty dips. If you order fries or sweet potato fries we recommend guacamole, pineapple bacon jam and truffle- or honey-peanut-mayonnaise. It’s so good.
